great deal on great knives
These knives are an awesome deal. When purchased separately, they cost around $230. The cutting core is VG-Max steel, which is harder and more durable than the VG-10 steel used in many of Shun's older knives, including the older versions of these two knives. The knives come in a nice gift box with a foam insert that securely holds both knives. The knives feel very good to hold, almost like an extension of the hand. (I'm right handed.) Right from the factory these knives are scalpel sharp. With the VG-Max core, and the care that I give to all of my knives, I expect them to stay sharp for a very long time. When they eventually get a bit dull, I'll send them to Shun for a free sharpening.

Someone cut corners, no pun intended!!!
be careful when buying knife sets. These are labeled as the "premier" collection but after I got them I did not feel like they were as sharp as my other Shun premier knives and the knives did not have the finishing Shun plate on the handle. Obviously you get what you paid for and I will not buy these knives in sets or online again.

Caveat Emptor
Look very closely at the picture and description of these knives. If you already have knives in this series, you should know that these are not the same. As one other reviewer pointed out, the don't have the end cap which does affect the feel of the knife in your hand. These knives are either very good knock offs, or they're being misrepresented.

its almost like they didnt grind the blade down smooth or one ...
these knives are constructed well. my only problem is that the kai wasabi paring knives come sharper. i am hesitant about sharpening them myself because the damascus section near the edge feels very pronounced. its almost like they didnt grind the blade down smooth or one of the metals layers expanded while the other stayed the same. for this reason, i feel that if i were to sharpen it, it may flake off or something. guess i'll wear em out a little then send them in to get sharpened, that way if they get jacked up, they can replace em.

Disappionted they don't match Premier line
Shun knives are great. I have 3 others in the Premier line. Thought these would have the same handles (to match Premier line). The handles are different. Look closely on the photo at the handle end of the knife...no steel and gold striped end caps like the rest I own. Also, makes it feel cheap (10 grams lighter in the handle with regards to the 4" paring knife of which I now have a mismatched pair. Models TDM0700 and TDM0757).

These paring knifes are awesome, especially for the price
These paring knifes are awesome, especially for the price! These don't have the shun classic D shapped handles that I have come to love. They are remarkably beautiful though. They have the VG Max which is awesome. For the price this is a steal of a deal
