Gundam Markers

I just got these in the mail today. As a beginner when it comes to painting Gundam models, I have to say the learning curve on these might be a little steep to those who don't... pay much attention to detail.Me being the control freak that I am, I'm LOVING these. Getting them to work is common sense, shake the bottle, press down the tip, wait for paint, worst comes to worst repeat. The paint is fine, as if it were diluted in thinner, but not to the point of being runny. Wherever you run the pen, you'll leave a good thick, clean layer of paint. They're cleaner and easier to use than the DecoColor Calligraphy pen's I own. The tips are some sort of porous plastic, whereas the DecoColor tips seem to be some sort of super-thin metal wiring compressed together, almost like very fine steel wool. These tips tend to fray after some use; the Gundam Markers do not fray at all, even with excessive pressure. Don't get me wrong, these are painting tools, so they need to be treated with care. The Metallic Gray is effing AMAZING. Very cool black-into-silver glossy marble-like color, and it paints so smoothly. I used it to detail joints, mechanical parts, the inside of containers, etc.Blue is definitely the Gundam blue we all know and love. Goes on bright, dries to a perfect hue. I tested it out on an old 1/144 Wing Zero I have, and I couldn't tell the difference between the paint and plastic besides the texture itself. The same goes for Red and Yellow.White is tricky to use, especially on surfaces that are dark. I find myself doing double and triple coats of the white in order to get a nice, clean white finish. It's easy to leave imperfections or bubbles in the paint when using the white marker, but that's a simple fix... Just run the marker lightly over the bubble or mark, and it'll smooth it out.The grey panel liner is my pet-peeve of the bunch... Maybe I haven't activated it correctly, but when I use it the ink is very opaque, and if I concentrate it, it looks purple, not grey. Perhaps I'm not using it correctly, so I'll hold my judgement fully... As for the tip, I love it. It's a sort of foamy brush tip, very fine at the end, but tapers to a good thickness. So it works for panel-lining and some detailing if you can get the ink to run correctly. All in all, definitely worth it for me, I'll buy them again when the paint runs out. Take your time to learn how to use these, whether by painting on your old or broken models, or even your remote control... Remember, it washes off with acetone.

Neat markers

Not what I was expecting, but not a bad thing. Thought they would be like sharpies but they’re like some kind of paint pen. Very cool and the colors match very well. I mostly use them on Transformers actually.

Perfect for Gundam

I have a number of cheap paint pens and markers from the craft store and I've tried them on my Gundams in the past and they've been okay, but nothing special. After hearing about these markers I decided to give it a go. I didn't expect much and figured if they didn't work well at least I'd have some new paint pens for other things.Holy crap, these are the real deal. The coverage is so smooth and shiny. There's a bit of flow, but basically the paint stays where it's put. I'm a believer now. These are Worth It.BUT it *is* paint, so you've got to wait for it to dry. And the panel lining pen isn't great, but that's not what I bought the set for.

GREAT paint markers for customizing gundam kits.

I'll be upfront: This only gets 4 stars instead of 5 because the white and yellow paints are thinner than the others and don't cover areas as well. They work for small spots if applied in a single thick layer, but cannot cover anything more than little details. Luckily these colors aren't generally needed in huge areas on most kits I've built. The red, blue, and 'gunmetal' (metallic grey) are all fantastic and do their job in one coat every time. The gunmetal in particular is a marker I keep coming back to, it goes on easily, is removed easily (toothpick can scrape it off after drying, or cotton swab + isopropryl alcohol works too), and it has a sparkle to it's dark color that's great for internal structures and dirty looking metal parts. It can also be used (gently) to apply some chipping to edges of your gunpla, but I'd advise using a brush for this. That's the other big benefit- if you hold down the tip of the marker firmly in a little dish, it'll dispense it's paint, and you can use it with a brush instead of the marker tip, for finer detail or if you just prefer it. Additionally, the final marker in this kit is a brush-tipped panel lining marker that is the easiest thing in the world to use- just slather it on all over the place sloppily, then use a cotton swab to gently rub the excess ink off (no rubbing alcohol needed!) and it'll leave you with nicely defined panel lines and details on most parts. The best part about this brush-tipped ink pen: you can use it on top of the paint and it still behaves the same! Just make sure your paint dries completely first, otherwise they might mix.Get these if you're considering it, especially if you're a beginner. It's a wonderful introduction to paint and customization for model kits, and it's a tool you'll continue to use even as you get into hand-painting via brushes or airbrushing. Also, check out the Metallic set, it's gorgeous.

Good set, don't get it for the white one

It's a good, solid set of gundam marker colors. Kind of wish that instead of gunmetal there was a light grey because that seems to be a rather common color needed for older kits that require more work rather than adding metalics.Unfortunately, the white is not as solid as the other colors in the set or other sets, requiring a few coats and doesn't seem to leave a smooth result if you do or blotchy if you don't. Might be a reason for the White EX though.

Nice colors

These markers are nice and colorful. They are for older kids and not small children. Would be great for someone learning to draw or sketch. These markers also color well in the adult color books.

Purchased for T’au

I bought these for adding highlights or details to larger T’au Warhammer 40K models. They work great for that, the panel liner in particular adds a lot of pop to the models.
