The Story of Trees: And How They Changed the World

This is a gorgeous hardbound book that provides great one-page stories for each of the trees that it covers, and that has beautiful, full-page illustrations of each tree. All the stories are well-written and well-researched. The best way to read this work is to randomly open it to any page, then to study the drawing carefully and then read the account. I recently purchased Cesare Leonardo’s The Architecture of Trees which is a hefty tome filled with rich and detailed ink drawings of trees. It’s a classy book that cost $88.00 at Amazon. The Story of Trees is equally classy and can be had for just $22.00! A great gift.

Gorgeous book and interesting, too

I received this book as a gift, but I wanted to review it in order to tribute the authors, because it is a lovely book! The illustrations are beautiful, and the text is sparse, full of amazing facts about various trees and how they have affected or been used by humans across history. It's interesting but not dry or overly scientific. A really lovely surprise, highly recommend!

I expected a lot more than this book provides. Some trees barely get a half page "story" I'm not at all impressed with this book. If the price of the book came down to a lower figure it may be just worthwhile buying. I am considering sending this back. Not at all what I expected.

Looked forward to receiving this book. I had picked up a review in a blog or magazine.I expected much, much more. The text is cursory and sources are unattributed. The sketches are limited in design appeal and are uninformative. It might, barely, supply a starter for anyone interested in learning about trees but they might quickly lose interest.
