Q: I wanted to order one for my grandfather, but I was more worried that he might not use it. Is it complicated to use it?

No, it's very easy to use, there's a mini user manual in the package, just read it before use.

Q: Can this be left in the dirt to monitor continuously?

The information I received stated that it shouldn’t be left in a pot and to clean between tests. I don’t wash it after each use but I do wipe it off. If there are pests or eggs, I don’t want to infest other plants.

Q: Will I need one for each plant?

Buy one. If your plants are close together in a small area, set it to the moisture, sunlight or Ph level what ever one of these you want to test. Once you have moved the button stick thin in the ground 2-4 inches. Set a timer for 10 min. Then, and this is important, look at the reading while this tester is still in the ground. Once it’s pulled out it zeroes out. If your plant are spread out in a wider area, go to each area with this tester and repeat the steps as I explained. You only need this one tester, unless you have lots of money and want to buy a truckload of these. It’s quite easy.

Q: What do the numbers mean foir the hydrometer?

The top row of numbers measures sun light- dark on the left to full sun light on the right Middle row measures moisture - dry on the left and wet on the right Bottom row measures acidity or PH balance- high alkaline (low acid) on the left and high acid to the right. Based on the plant type you want to measure, would suggest you google the proper alkalinity levels by plant type. Hope this helps
