Some assembly required
I'm a full time luthier, I get these as needed for repairing student violins.Beautiful wood. Well crafted. Most ebony is stained to look solid black. They left the grain natural on this one and its stunning.Does not come with cork. You must use some kind of padding to grip and protect the finish on the violin. you can cut up a whine cork if needed, but I use the adhesive backed cork for crafts. The hardware was too long for the violin I was working on, so it wouldnt tighten on the violin. I simply cut the long pieces short and flipped them around, using the cut off end to go in the rest and the short threaded end to go in the shaft. Hopefully that's useful.

Arrived cracked, no cork, poor craftsmanship
Arrived cracked, maybe because it was shipped in a thin plastic envelope with no padding. Like others have said, the holes are drilled too large (and one was even drilled at an off angle) and it doesn’t come with cork. I did like the non-black finish of the ebony (a rich dark brown). Returned but purchased a second one hoping it’d be better; same issues but instead of being cracked, the holes were not drilled equal distances from the edge of the center arch (defective). Still no cork. Returned the second one as well.

Lacking Quality control
the negative reviews warned the clamps are not sized correctly and does not fit because of Mismatched diameters.

Worked exactly how I expected.
This was great for the price. It fit the 1/2 size violin I needed it for just right. One thing to point out though is it doesn't come with any cork where it touches the violin to protect the violin and keep it from slipping. This doesn't lower my review, because there is nothing to indicate it does come with that. It is just easy to forget that you will need that before putting something like this on a violin. It's easy to find really thin sheets of cork at craft stores, so not really a big deal.

Great but pencil drill alignment makes left and food oil.
Great but pencil drill alignment makes left and food oil. 3/5, a good cheap option.

Comes without cork pads
The chin rest itself is well built but it came without the cork pads that protect the violin finish.

requires work to be used as a chinrest
crude, unfinished, overpriced. as it arrives from Amazon it is unusable: missing cork, supplied bracket falls off because predrilled holes are too wide, chinrest blank is too low. do not buy it if you are not willing to work on it. why would anyone wont to spend $10 on something that you have to work on if you can get different and useable chinrest for $15 from other vendors?! why did I kept it? I bought it as a starting point for DIY chinrest project to save time on carving basic shape from a block of wood myself. I knew what I was buying based on other negative reviews. thank you fellow reviewers!
