I bought this on recommendation from HVAC tech for my older heater system which uses 24 volts. He came over and made sure the wiring was correct, he had to add two additional wires since old thermostat only used twoFirst one did not work out of the box. Scheduled a return and ordered a second unit and it works great. Very happy with the Nest thermostats. This is my third one. I have one at my home and now my mother in laws for this oneI added one to a mountain cabin as the previous electronic model would reset to a high temp after power outage. Not great during the winter when we are not there. Want to keep it from freezing but not 70 degrees if no one is around.Also I can preheat the cabin to be warm before we arrive.

I have had several of this exact thermostat over the years, but never had one have such major issues out of the box. This particular one could not be added to my account, connect with WIFI, or be remotely controlled. The battery was so dead out of the box, the thermostat would not turn on. I had to charge it for an hour before even installing it. Then I literally tried for 2 hours to get this to work. Fortunately for me, Amazon accepted it back as a return and I have ordered a replacement. I may update after the new one arrives.

I thought I bought a dud of a thermostat. I connected it thinking I would have no problems. Nothing...I didn't realize I had to charge it before using it. It wouldn't connect, wouldn't turn on to let me know it was dead; I just had a black screen. I had to look up why it wasn't working, thinking it might not be compatible. It was since I went from NEST thermostat to NEST thermostat e. I put it on an old phone charger and had to let it charge for a few hours before trying again. Once I installed it again, set up was easy. I'm no technician, but after it was charged I felt like I could take on any electrical device in the home. Thermostat is connected and working properly. Now I can lock my thermostat and keep it locked from my hot-blooded husband.

Easy to use. Love how it lights up when near by. Nice big numbers, easy to read

Followed the install instructions and it would just not turn on or recognize my wifi. I saw a usb-c charging port and thought I’d give it a try. After a few hours, it “woke up” and was charged up and ready to go. If the instructions were more intuitive I would have given it 5 stars. But I wasted 2 hours trying to troubleshoot then another couple hours waiting for it to charge.My tip: if you buy it check if it has a charge before you start installing

This is my third E programmable. The first two had problems with charging and died. I bought one since it was cheap (about half its original price perhaps because it was phased out, due to poor performance, I don't know and won't speculate). It originally came as standard equipment in our new house. The builders said they have had a lot of problems with this model. The current one is still working after 4 months, I hope it lasts! I'll revisit my rating after a year of operation.
