Makes mending socks a lot easier
Tried to find a US provider of a similar product, unfortunately not able to find one on Amazon. Purchased this product and it works very well.

Sturdy and does it's job
I got this for my partner who is into sewing and knitting and clothing repair. They have used this to fix a number of socks that they would have otherwise been set to throw away. The head stays on really well, the product feels well built and sturdy, and does its job well.

A Darn Good Darning Tool
What is there to say about a darning egg? I moved (two years ago but I'm still trying to go through boxes after significantly downsizing) and I have yet to find my previous darning egg. After collecting about 5 pairs of socks in which one or both socks need some darning as well repairing holes in clothing and other fabrics, I decided to just go ahead and purchase a new egg. I like the handle on this darning egg because it gives me more control of the fabric without having the egg wiggle around and shift. Compared to my old version egg, the handle is a great improvement and I'm using it more often for all hand sewing like restitching holes in T-shirt underarms where the seam has just opened up and it's easier to hand sew than to haul out the old sewing machine for an inch or two restitch. I can hand sew the hole faster than winding a bobbin! So (or should I say, "Sew"), think outside the box (or sox) for uses of this darning egg because the handle makes it much more versatile.Hope this review is helpful. Let me know if you have any questions.

Excellent design and construction with one exception (that can be resolved - read below) - still worth getting.
Used by the knitter in our family, this gets a 4-star rating. It works very well, and the detachable handle feature became immediately handy with a repair job she was waiting to do when the darning egg arrived. Quality is good, including finish - EXCEPT for failure to lubricate the wooden threads on the handle that screw into the egg. Read on.The only real complaint is that even with rubber jar-opener devices, it was nearly impossible to unscrew the handle from the egg. We almost gave up completely, and probably would have had it not finally broken loose on that final attempt - it was that bad. Once separated, we put bee's wax with some furniture oil on the wooden threads to screw it back in, and there has been no problem with sticking since. Poor (or incomplete) manufacturing in that regard - just a little appropriate lubricant on the threads of the handle will keep the two pieces from being almost inseparable upon receipt and use by the customer. That's just too easy for the manufacturer to have done, and frankly too lazy to give it a pass in the rating of the product. Otherwise, this would be an easy 5-star review.

Useful and comfortable
OK, first- there is generally NO reason to darn commercial socks in this day and age! There are many other uses- stuff with herbs and use in your dryer; stuff with crinkly cellophane, add a bit of catnip, and delight any cat you gift it to- etc.BUT! A hand-knitted sock is well worth darning if it sprouts a hole- and this is a nicely-sized base for that darning.Just to note- darning a small hole is pretty fast and easy, hen you have a darning egg like this and a tapestry needle (bent tipped makes it even easier), and will make your sock or slipper useful again.Very recommended for knitters and crocheters!

No one should be without one if you do any fabric sewing!
I have an antique one and use it for much more than repairing socks. I’ve repaired torn sheets, rips in shirts and shorts, and in many other instances where you need to make simple close-up stitches in difficult areas. I had to get one for my mom, so I bought her this one. She used it to fix a tear in a sheet on her bed and called me up to sing its praises!! She couldn’t believe how simple it made the task. Get one.
