Kindle basic vs onyx Boox Palma 1
Kindle vs Boox PalmaLove this thing! The 2024 Kindle Basic is probably the best e-reader you can get *at this price*. but to be honest, if I bought it again, I'd probably spend an extra $45 for the Kindle paperwhite. The battery life is incredible—I easily get 50 days between charges, which blows my mind. It’s lightweight, easy to read on, and does the job well if you just want a simple, reliable reading device. That said, I do wish it had a blue light filter for nighttime reading, and after using my Boox Palma 1, I realize how limited the Kindle is in terms of customization. I use the Boox way more because of how flexible it is.If you’re just looking for the basics and unbeatable battery life and reliability, this is the one. But if you want more control over your reading experience, definitely look into Boox Palma 1 or the Kindle Paperwhite for the blue light filter.

Better then my old one and I love the color!
Finally took the plunge to update my kindle. My kindle was an old one from 2019, I read from it everyday since I got it and it didn’t even have night mode. Finally realizing that mine is past its time, not that it didn’t work but due to needing the night vision recently I decided to see about kindles. I was between the color and this one but this one won. The price was great, the dark mode was key and the color of the kindle (matcha) is amazing. I love the kindle and the fact that it’s also super fast and it seems so far to have a long lasting battery. It’s worth it and comfy to hold. A great buy.

Easy to use
I have only had this for about a week. It is fairly close to the simplicity of my old kindle keyboard. I just wanted a device I could load books on to read and not need a computer science degree to use it. I take grandson's to college credit classes and spend a lot of time waiting since they don't yet drive. This little kindle is a perfect size to slip in my purse or in my computer bag. It has two choices for the lighting of the screen. I really like the dark setting as I can read at night and don't need to turn on a light. You can see the screen and read easily but it is not bright enough to wake up my husband. Since I was getting a kindle but didn't know which one my daughter waited and then ordered a screen protector and a carrying case for my Mother's Day gift which I would highly recommend for it. Even with the case it is very light weight.

Tiny, mighty! Perfect for those who get distracted easily!
It’s honestly been a good two years since I’ve sat down and genuinely read a book… I know…Too long! When I saw this kindle in the shop (the matcha green one) - I was a little hesitant at first. Like why do I need an ebook if I can just order hard covers or paperbacks? But this thing is tiny and mighty! I’ve probably charged it once a month, and I get to read before bed by using the black light option. It’s perfectly tiny where I can just hold it in one hand - and read even laying on my side! Perfect for falling asleep to a good story! The matcha green color is also super cute and not distracting! I used to have trouble focusing when I sat down to read large hard-covers but somehow this kindle helps me read more than I have ever read in my LIFE!

Ads vs No Ads
Update: been about a month Ad Free and I highly recommend getting ads off. No swiping to open, so it registers much quicker. Ad Free lock screens are much less distracting than Ad Supported lock screens :)This is my first Kindle. I originally bought it Ad Supported thinking I wouldn’t be bothered based off other reviews. But the ad is the Lock Screen. Meaning, when the kindle is turned “off”, the screen does not go blank/black, it defaults into a random ad. Some ads are book recommendations (though they don’t feel targeted toward me, so maybe just sponsored) and others are Kindle Unlimited subscription ads and things of that sort.I decided to pay to have ads removed, as I found the “always on” screen distracting. HOWEVER, now the Lock Screen defaults to a randomly selected stock image photo of nature or art of some form. I was hoping I might get to choose my own, or have the option to just have a blank screen. Maybe I don’t understand kindles, but regardless, I don’t love that. A case with a cover might remedy this. The Home Screen of the kindle presents book recommendations and current reads. I like that just fine.I transitioned to the kindle after only reading on my phone via the Libby app. For me, reading on the kindle is harder- specifically, it is harder to navigate chapters if I wish to go back, I cannot immediately see how many pages are left in a chapter (only minutes), and turning the pages is a little more sensitive. That being said, I prefer the screen of the kindle to my phone. My eyes don’t hurt. I can read while I walk. I don’t get dizzy or strained. The size is perfect for me. I have 5’10” woman sized hands and it still sits so comfortably in them. The color is beautiful. I recommend it, but with a grain of salt. I imagine as I continue to figure it out, I will come to love it more.Note: I put my kindle in dark mode and selected a smaller font size than default
