Not easy to configure.
It is a home router but on steroids. It has so many functions that probably you don't need in your home network. It is very good. I learn a few more things about networking trying to configure it.I can recommed it

Tiny but mighty
These Mikrotik boxes are for when you need advanced configuration in a small box that you can deploy in a SOHO environment. RouterOS is not easy to use unless you know networking or take your time to learn it, but when you do it's absolutely worth it. I can configure VPN, complicated policy based routing, firewall rules, etc. These are usually not available on routers of this price range.I got a few of these set up at family members' houses for S2S Wireguard tunnel to my house and they've been running flawlessly for months. Stability and performance are rock solid.

RouterOS is my new go-to
RouterOS is a monster to learn but it is -powerful- and nearly everything takes effect instantly -- no reboots, no long waits to apply. Mangle a rule and traffic stops, right then, so it's pretty easy to tell when you've made a mistake. All firewall rules have counters, so you can tell when they're working or being used, or how much they're being used.It can do -everything- your router does. It does it better. It does it faster. And it can probably do more, too. UPNP works perfectly. NAT-PMP. Proper configuration nets you Cone NAT so everyone's game consoles work flawlessly with multiplayer. Hairpin NAT can be configured. It all works, but it's all on you to understand -how-.This little box can route 500/500 with complex firewall rules, dual WAN with failover (if you change the bridge ports etc) but it can't handle packet shaping on upload at 500 -- you'll get closer to 350mbit.I'm 100% keeping it, it'll make a fantastic backup/emergency unit, but it turns out the better route for performance in my case is my old APU2, with RouterOS instead of opnSense.Either buy RouterOS, or something running it. You will not regret it. It's not as "consumer-friendly" as a Netgear with eight antennas and WIFI7 (and if you want a serious router you know to manage your wifi separately anyway) but it will be the best solution possible.

Yep it's a nice wired router
Good: performant, compact, professional, affordableBad: OS/web box GUI to learn / need a technical comfort level.Using for home/home office. I like separate hardware for public facing ComCrap, vs internal home Wireless Access Point(s). Replaces a dead Ubiquiti EdgeRouterLite in that role. It's my first "tik".Hardest part of install was OS; Gaining comfort w/ their downloadable GUI config tool, web box. I am a little technical, but absolutely not a router/networking person. That is to say, I can usually work out/configure technical stuff, given enough time, trial & error, a little bit of dumb luck (and a boat load of Utube/google/etc).OS was one tick behind, so I updated. Changed login. Ended up taking most of what came with their default config but added a few tweaks. Honestly, NAT and good firewall rules fill out 90% of my needs. Embarrassed to say how long it took for me to even verify/work that out. But it's nice to know that at a relatively cheap price point, I have options. This is not a router for your Mom who needs an idiot proof GUI. This is a router for a geek or even for a small sub net location managed by a professional. It's probably overkill for home needs, but hoping that provides stability and future proofing

Great router, but probably not for most home users.
I replaced my TP-Link Omada router with this do to security concerns with TP-Link routers, and my particular router was at EOL. The Mikrotik was the best choice for what I needed as speed and security for my home network. It is probably not the best choice for those who have little or no experience configuring networking equipment. This is especially true if you are planning on making changes from the default configuration. I have 21 years experience programming Cisco networking equipment, and as another reviewer commented, "it took still a little getting used to".

Awesome little "do everything" network appliance - now upgraded
I have one of these at each of our remote locations and they are easy to manage, ultra reliable and just do the trick. Can't beat it for the price.

Incredibly detailed traffic info
This provides great information for network connections. I did run into one serious problem: when connected directly to my Verizon FIOsS ONT, downloading (Rx) was at full speed but uploading (Tx) was anemic - about 2% of Rx speed on what should be a symmetric connection. When I connected an UNmanaged switch to the ONT and connected my Hex device to that, everything worked flawlessly. So that’s how I’m operating - and writing this review. The cable from the ONT is a long run, but it’s within spec and other routers have had no problem. I haven’t investigated enough to see if it’s really the cable at fault or some buffering issue between ONT and the Hex (playing with Hex settings didn’t help). This was enough of a head scratcher that I don’t recommend this router for casual users. But casual users can probably get by with something much simpler and cheaper anyway.
