Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns, Grows With As Little As 3 Hours of Sunlight, 7 lbs.

I seeded my yard very thick and ranked it in covering the seed after I had scarfed my yard so I had it covered up very well. The seed was watered well not letting it dry out and it came up spotty. I think this was old seed! Not at all satisfied with this product.

I am going out of my way to write this review as I am not a horticulturist. My EX landscaper put down crabgrass germination inhibitor in the spring. This, I learned, inhibits the germination of ALL seeds. My lawn was looking "tired" so I waited until the fall before laying this seed. It would not germinate. I watched the seed seem to turn to mulch over the winter. To my joy and surprise every place I seeded a half a year earlier germinated. Thick, green and healthy. No waste at all. Beautiful and amazing. I live in northern New Jersey to give perspective. I still have half a bag. Scary good stuff. I have wasted so much money over the years on garbage seed. Buy this and have your mind blown.

I used this product on an area of my lawn that keeps dying because it's right next to a fence in the backyard and the area gets very little direct sun exposure. Probably around 3 hours a day (of direct sun) which is what this seed calls for. Proper seeding, top soil, fertilizing, and watering was done to ensure best success for the grass. I had moderate success with the product. The seeds did not grow in thick but very sparsely. I think the problem was with lack of sunlight that didn't trigger germination of the seed but the grass that did grow is growing very healthy and surviving well whereas before it wouldn't do well due to lack of sunlight. I will be purchasing this product again and overseeding until this area becomes thicker but don't be surprised if it doesn't come in immediately thick on the first try. The seeds also took longer to germinate than other areas of my lawn.

This product is amazing. Filled in my fescue lawn in about 10 days! I’ll be getting more!

I live in an apartment complex with a very muddy yard and per usual, they didn’t do anything about it. I ordered this in November and put some out in the yard. Did it again in December. Even with the Texas winter… this grass grew pretty well and never died. Stayed green! It is now late February, picture shown. I need to put some more out to make it thick. But I am so impressed!! All the green in the picture is this product!

* It was doing great and in my mind had become established. We have had plenty of rain, but for some reason the grass is dying…practically gone. Maybe too much water? Not sure.Took about a week, but it sprouted and it’s still alive. Very shady area. Planted in October. We will see.It has done very well. Some spots are soggy as well and it’s still growing. I just invested in two more bags and planted in February. I hope I get the same results.. should be noted I used a 4 prong aerator to poke holes in the ground.

Update: 3 week image from above my deck was just uploaded. It’s the last image. I’m in love. There a few bare images due to 2 rain storms that washed through after seeding but otherwise, easy to patch up in the coming week. This grass seed is amazing and very hardy!!I’m a first-time solo grass seed planter (minus my micromanaging lawn lover husband). Our garden gets dense shade with approximately 4-6 hours of indirect sunlight. I have a healthy young 11 year old crepe myrtle I refuse to remove that provided a beautiful canopy of shade to my small garden which makes it only conditioned to plant dense shade mix. Also, I also have inherited a drainage issue that all my neighbors without french drains have issue with. My husband and I have decided not to drop the big bucks to fix it. We realize a french drain would help my garden out of our wet muddy mess in the spring and early fall by sending our sitting water after rain storms into a water shed located about 30 feet further past our fence line but the cost is too much to swallow at this point. Hence, the spring and ladder fall will continue to do a number on my inadequately sloped bowl like garden. I’ve offset the frustration with the purchase of planter pots and hanging flower baskets along with an self-watering above ground garden bed.As for the attempt to grow grass with these multitude of obstacles in my way, I must say, this seed is amazing in its ability to continue growing during this spring drowning spell of so many rain storms!!In addition, i have my 7YO daughter and a number of my neighborhood children in my backyard daily. In my attempt to have new grass forge through the trampling it will often get as i will be unable to referee kids 24/7 back toward my stepping stones, I mixed this with this dense shade tall fescue mix seed with rye grass mix seed. So far, I’m impressed and can’t wait to see how it continues to grow and fill in well into the summer and fall. Will edit in few more weeks and give another update on happenings. I have an area that gets zero direct sunlight and this stuff grew with no problem. Once I applied it I sprinkled some topsoil over it, watered it every day, and by day seven I had grass.Mind you it is very thin, so you must keep reapplying to get it thick enough to actually look like grass. This is what I have accomplished in two weeks. You can also see how thin the blades are. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for some green and dark areas of their yard.

The most important thing to me at this point is that the grass actually grows. I have spread the seed out and also turned on the sprinkler system last night for 20 minutes to get everything moist.Will update the growing process in a couple of weeks.UPDATEPrice of this product is way too high. You can get the same grass from Home Depot for half the price. Different name but same manufacturer - just check the contents. Seller also promised me a refund of $50.00 which he never sent and in the process had the nerve to call me a liar. I would highly recommend that everyone look elsewhere.

Grows very fast, nice green colour grass.
