Westcott Beveled Protractor Ruler, 12", Transparent (B-75)

I used these rulers through college and grad school. I now have them for my kids. They are still the same quality and worth every penny

It's a really nice ruler with one feature I really needed, namely, division into tenths of an inch and also the zero point right at the edge. Though that makes it vulnerable, of course, to being banged, you need that if you are in certain situations. I had one from long ago but the markings got dim and faint. Hope that doesn't happen to this one.

The picture for this listing doesn't tell the whole story, in fact I avoided buying it since it appeared to be a half-ruler in the photo. I did some research on the c thru company website to be sure this model is the full size version of the smaller protractor ruler and it is. It works great for my purposes, drawing up geologic maps and cross sections on a desk as it is about 30cm long I think? and makes drafting, sketching more accurate angle measurements, doubling, use with triangles, scaling with a divider/compass, etc easier than the smaller 10cm version, which is still the best portable choice for field use and plotting strike and dip measurements on field maps, aerial photos, etc. I only wish they made a hard plastic, thicker version with non-slip feet since this one is still flexible like the smaller version, although around double the thickness which does help in making more confident finalizing pen strokes where needed.

Great ruler for art or drafting. Measurements line up with my machinists rulers and protractors and combination squares (though this is only graduated to 1/8 inch, good enough for most applications). I got a few different sizes of these as they were very inexpensive and recommended by my drawing teacher. I have already found uses outside of class to use these for sketching ideas and plans for use in the shop. These are thing and I would not use them as a cutting edge, however that is not what they are intended for either. For less than 4 bucks how can you go wrong.

Based on some of the reviews I've read, I suggest you go to a brick-and-mortar first to see what you are getting. It seems that there are a lot of unmatched expectations regarding this item and how "substantial" it is.This one was not a surprise (either good nor bad) from any of the other similar Westcott items I have owned in the past 10 years or so.

I’ve had dozens of useful Westcott drafting tools for.ev.er, since the days of wax and galleys, acetone and made in America. This Westcott Beveled Protractor Ruler, 12", Transparent (B-75) is made in China but, all things considered, it compares fairly well, and looks and feels much like the “old days”. It and other new rulers I’ve recently gotten are printed, though, so I’m thinking the marking will wear off in time. My current Westcotts have become yellowed and brittle over the past 50 plus years. This is a very versatile version; super clear and much more flexible than the brittle antiques. The beveling is not nearly as smooth though. Perhaps that’s a function of years of use. I buffed them with an old fingernail buffer and they’re ok. Nice would also be if the sleeve it comes in where sturdier but it will do to keep the ruler clean and somewhat protected. I trimmed the flap so’s to be more useful and will probably reinforce the sleeve with some tape.

Perfect for making cross sections and other things for my structural geological engineering course! The little protractor on it is super helpful :-)

This ruler is an exact copy of an older ruler that I bought about 16 years ago. On the first one, the layer of plastic that protects the red markings is coming of over time but I do not have that issue with the new one. It was exactly what I wanted and ordered and got to me in a short period of time. If I need one and can find them, I will order another one but that might be many years from now.
