Teknetics Omega 8500 Metal Detector

First I want to say that the item was shipped very fast. The Teknetics Omega is by far the Best I've ever owed. I am not a beginner at the hobby, I've metal detected for almost 40 year with just about every brand. I own one of the top of the line detectors and my metal detecting buddy owns a mid line detector. We searched the front yard of a home 3 weeks ago with our detectors. We gridded the yard north to south and east to west with both detectors. I ask the owner of the home if I could go back over the front yard with my new Teknetics Omega and she said yes. With the Teknetics Omega and I found 11 coins we both missed. The Yard Is iron infested, every coin I found was with iron. I used the 3 tone and would have a high tone with a low tone with every signal. If you read the manual first, I believe a person that has never detected could take this detector out and look like a pro his first day out.

The 8500 is a top notch detector! I've had the Teknetics line of "Greek" units, starting with the Alpha. I just worked my way up. The Omega will be the last one I will probably ever use. I'm not a hardcore detectorist, but more a hobby type person. The features of the unit are par to none. Without going hard technical, let me just sum it up by this: for the price range, features and function, it can't be beat!

Unfortunately it was jostled during transit or just defective. The head phone jack doesn’t line up to use head phones, it’s squeaking terribly.

Well-made, light weight and very sensitive. Took me a while to figure out the controls. Not a criticism, rather due to my inexperience with a machine with many features. My previous detector was a basic model easy to learn.

These are great detectors. Easy to use and super light. Will find the coins and trash lol

been using this unit for a month now. bought mine pre-owed but in good condition. i used the 11"DD coil and the 5" NEL sharp coil. not to sugar coat my review. the things you need to know about this detector is that it is very noisy if you set the sensitivity all the way up to 99. 60 is the preferred number you want. you can still hit dime at 4-6" on a 5"DD coil.now if you are near power lines and you put the sensitivity high, performance is limited because of EMI interferance. other expensive ones can get past this problem so go grab those $1K+ unit and you can get rid of EMI just fine.some people like to use stick to bigget coil but I like mine on small coil coz it separate good though i will miss deep target but most coins can been detected 4-6 deep. my best find so far of this machine: 1891 seated liberty dime just 5" and 1870 shield nickle less than 6" deep.so you need depth? grab a bigger coil and you suffer separation unless you are really keen on listening its signal you know there is something good there out of ocean of trash iron/pulltabs...so if you are just starting out and your price range is $200-500 i suggest get the EurotekPro (im not gonna name other brand at its same range as i do not have experience with ) it's a deep as this machine with auto Ground Balance - the ability to correct the machine from mineralization. high soil mineral content tend your machine to function ineffectively if it does not GB correctly. you will lose depth and your machine will not give you correct readings as it chatters.the omega have auto and manual GB so you can tweek. it also have 3 freq. to choose from (this is not a multi-freq machine. only 7.8Khz) just to avoid other machine interfering with yours if you happen to be near with other metal detectors in the field.four tones, to give you more option about what you would like to hear regarding different metals. iron alwas has this base tone. the more conductive ones has higher pitch.i rate it 4 out of 5 just because it is noisy sensitivity wise to EMI.If you get this unit it wont fail you finding Gold Silver and lots of coins on this depth range. you just have to pay attention of what this machine is telling you under its coil.Good Luck out there and Happy Hunting.
