Most mornings, I pop out of bed before the shock comes. Mine is set at 50% and it feels like the brief pain and irritation of a non-serious bug bite or sting. I believe I have the alarm sound and vibration at 50% as well. So there’s plenty of room to step it up if I begin to slip - though I don’t see that happening! I’ve only been using it two weeks, but it’s been life changing! I use the smart alarm function that wakes you around the time you set and aims for when you’re already stirring (rather than when you are dreaming in REM sleep or comatose in Stage IV deep sleep). I believe it gauges this pretty accurately because of how easily I wake. I am getting an Oura ring in the next few days so I will soon know for certain how accurate it is! Like many in this thread, I have struggled to wake up in the morning my entire life. This is the first resource that has made me feel in control - which is such a powerful and positive feeling after feeling so damn helpless for too long! In the beginning, as I was learning how to open my app and complete my puzzles to wake up, I would end up getting shocked simply because I took too long because I was unfamiliar with the process! That was a bit frustrating! But I know the deal now. The puzzles do change from day to day so you have to think to complete them and turn the alarm off, which really does help you to feel awake. It’s nice that there’s 3 choices for waking activities: puzzles, jumping jacks, or the QR code. Again, I’m glad I can switch it up if the puzzles become ineffective. As everyone else points out, why doesn’t this watch-looking thing display the time! It would definitely make sense and doesn’t seem cost prohibitive to add! If you are someone who is struggling to get to school or work in the morning than you owe it to yourself to try this and see if it gives you back control! People say how easy it is to take off the watch and that that is a drawback of the product. I disagree. I wouldn’t want to have to wake up earlier in order to take of some confusing contraption! And, for this to work, you must be invested in wanting to wake up on time! If you aren’t, nothing will help! You couldn’t just strap it on an unwilling teenager. The watch doesn’t magically make you a morning person, but if you have the will, this is the way! I haven’t considered using it for any behavioral modifications yet. I am a smoker so maybe I’ll eventually pair a shock with having a cigarette in the future, but one thing at a time! And I do believe in using positive reinforcement wherever possible! As do the experts. The issue with using this for behavioral modification is that you have to learn to modify your behavior to incorporate this resource into shaping your behavior. It will only ever be as effective as you are. That’s why I think it’s helpful to think of it as a resource or tool. (I was a Biopsychology and Cognitive Science major at the University of Michigan and was published in the Journal of Behavioral Brain Research as an undergraduate, so I have knowledge and expertise in this area).

What everyone below me has said is completely true, so I won’t get into too much detail on a lot of its faults. In short, the app is god awful, the device itself could have a lot more useful tech for $150, heart rate tracking especially, and I can’t believe it doesn’t have a clock on it. It wouldn’t need to be fancy, a simple LCD quartz clock wouldn’t be hard or expensive to incorporate, because I find myself looking at it all the time (maybe I can shock this conditioning out of myself 😂). It’s also very annoying that it only comes in purple, but I assume it’s one of the ways they can upsell the Pavlok 3, which leads me to my next point…There is absolutely no reason to buy the Pavlok 3, it’s essentially the exact same thing and for $50 or (yet another) monthly subscription of $8, you can purchase all the app functionality that you get with the Pavlok 3. With a $20 coupon, the shock clock 3 was $145, so the one time $50 charge would still make it ~$60 cheaper than the P3. But, it’s pointless. As I said, the app is complete garbage. The habit forming and breaking functions are nothing more than notifications, something you could easily achieve with a reminders app. Seeing as it can’t actually know when you’re doing something that you want to break, it’s 100% up to you to be conscious of it, and shock yourself. Luckily, the shock clock has a button for exactly that as well, and you can use it whenever you want. So, save yourself the money and set reminders on another app, if that’s how you’d like to do it, and then zap yourself. But, I can’t stress this enough, you have to WANT to break/learn the habit, or else you’ll never actually follow through with the most important part, at least of that functionality aspect.The alarm is a different story, it’s the only function that can passively condition you, as long as you actually put it on and secure it in whatever way you need (probably not with the strap lock provided, that thing is NOT a barrier to removing the watch). I don’t know about you, but the shock on demand feature is just a bonus, and I purchased this solely as an alarm. And yes, it 10000% works. I have never woken up so fast in my entire life, as I have the past few mornings. I have it set at 65%, 5 shocks every 8 seconds, I close out of the QR code on my laptop and lock it, so I have to unlock my computer and find the code, all while being shocked to oblivion. By the time I turn the thing off, I have zero desire to crawl back into bed, and when I say that is LIFE CHANGING, I truly mean it. I can’t even begin to express the importance of that to me, it feels like I have suddenly gained a super power. Hence why I’m giving it 5 stars after all the complaints. Sure, it could be a lot better for the price, but look at it this way, the value is determined by its capability to change your life, not by its multi-functionality. From that point of view, it’s a no-brainer purchase for me. A simple app overhaul really is in order though so, if you’re reading this, Pavlok, please prioritize your existing customers before putting out “Pavlok 4”!!!!!

it's a bit unfortunate that it only comes in purple, with no options to replace the band. Also unconscious me figured out how to take the thing off and I haven't found a way to me-proof it yet. Even with the little plastic band lock it came with. If only the band was long enough that I could strap it to my ankle. Now that would definitely get me to wake up. I can't reach that without sitting up.Also it doesn't actually realize when you're awake. Even after I've scanned the QR code I keep in an entirely different room to make it harder for myself to get it to stop doing its best to make sure hair never grows on that part of my arm ever again, I hear it beeping and buzzing on my nightstand from a whole different floor. My nightstand has filed complaints.
